DOGMA II

DOGMA II

Dogma II consists of the mechanism in the back and Plexiglas in front. The machine is positioned in a dark space. Its working principle is that of an optical reader / scanner: the mechanism gradually unveils the mystical image concealed in the dark. Through chain transmission the motor, taken out of an old copy machine, moves the neon light up and down, thus gradually illuminating the image which is screen printed on the Plexiglas in front. The front surface is framed at both ends – above and below – by the image of hands.

The middle image is found footage of the Devil’s hands peeling an egg and is taken from the film Angel Heart (1987) – “You know, some religions think that egg is the symbol of the soul.” Another quote from the film comes to mind: “They say there’s just enough religion in the world to make men hate one another but not enough to make them love.”
